Dr. Patterson-Stephens named Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Inclusion and lntercultural Relations
We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Shawna Patterson-Stephens, will become Student Affairs’ associate vice chancellor for the Office of Inclusion and lntercultural Relations, subject to the approval of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. Dr. Patterson-Stephens most recently served as the director of the Davis Intercultural Center within the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity at Williams College in Williamstown, MA.
In her new role, Dr. Patterson-Stephens will provide administrative oversight for the Asian American Cultural Center; Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center; Diversity & Social Justice Education; International Education; La Casa Cultural Latina; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Resource Center; Native American House; and Women’s Resources Center.
Dr. Patterson-Stephens, who earned cultural studies-related bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University, and a doctorate specializing in cultural studies and critical theory from Florida State University, previously worked at the University of Pennsylvania, Florida State University, Pennsylvania State University-University Park, and Michigan State University in Student Affairs units.
We are particularly thrilled Dr. Patterson-Stephens will be joining our Student Affairs family because she brings with her a strong record of accomplishment and is a noble scholar in the field of Student Affairs.
Dr. Patterson-Stephens will begin her new role with Illinois on August 1, 2019.
She replaces Dr. Gigi Secuban, who left in June 2018 to assume the role of vice president for diversity and inclusion at Ohio University in Athens, OH.
