Join our prevention team! 

Are you passionate about ending sexual violence?  Want to develop your facilitation and public presentation skills?  Join our team of peer educators!  The WRC's peer education team facilitates workshops on a range of prevention education topics including:

  • FYCARE - a mandatory workshop for first-year students that focuses on the dynamics of sexual assault, ways to support a survivor, understanding consent, and campus and community resources.
  • ICARE - a highly interactive workshop about consent, establishing group norms in which sexually disrespectful behavior is identified and learning a variety of intervention skills to promote active bystander behavior.
  • I HEART HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS (IHHR) - an interactive workshop exploring what participants want in relationships, what makes healthy relationships and how to recognize warning signs of abusive relationships.
  • GUARD - this workshop educates students in Greek Life on creating a safe campus which values consent, supports survivors, and intervenes in potentially dangerous situations. GUARD is a collaborative program between Fraternity & Sorority Affairs and the Women's Resources Center.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must complete the CHLH 126: CARE course (learn more here) offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Applications excepted at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Applications for Fall 2023 facilitators open April 4.

FYCARE Facilitator Job Description

Position Description:

The First Year Campus Acquaintance Rape Education (FYCARE) program is located within the Women’s Resources Center, a programming unit of Student Success, Inclusion and Belonging/Student Affairs. The primary duty of the position is to facilitate two-hour workshops on sexual violence prevention to all incoming students, including first-year and transfer students. The position is supervised by the Associate Director, Prevention, who is responsible for sexual violence prevention education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating at least one workshop per week during the FYCARE season. Facilitators are to arrive 15 minutes early and be prepared to stay up to 15 minutes after the workshop;
  • Attending all staff meetings, including but not limited to Orientation, Script Practice, Professional Development Opportunities, and Roundtables;
  • Retrieving and returning all materials for workshops, like keys, technology, or binders, to and from the Women’s Resources Center as instructed by the Associate Director or designee;
  • Reading all communication from FYCARE staff, including biweekly facilitator newsletter, within 48 hours of sending and responding as needed;
  • Completing required trainings outlined by the University of Illinois for student employees;
  • Being a respectful representative of the Women’s Resources Center, which includes employing a harm-reduction approach such as not wearing any clothing with depictions of the Former Mascot or other oppressive imagery.

Qualifications include:

  • Successful completion of the “CARE” class (CHLH 199B or CHLH 126)
