Dear students, campus colleagues, and community members,
In the wake of the events that have occurred in Ferguson, Missouri, there is much emotion surrounding the recent grand jury decision to not indict Officer Darren Wilson. And as reactions to the decision are felt and discussed on campus, the University of Illinois cultural and resource centers are open to members of the U of I community to safely express their thoughts and opinions. We are here to listen, to be a resource, and to try to understand our collective reactions.
While the details of the decision will be reported by the media, one of the strengths of our university community is our commitment to provide opportunities for critical dialogue. Our doors are open to provide safe spaces for student-led conversations, and we invite you to participate in public speech spaces and events on campus after break. “Let's not just make noise, let's make a difference” calls Michael Brown’s family. Let this be our call too as our campus and the nation begin to address these important events.
