Leslie Morrow

Leslie self-identifies as a queer woman of color and advocate for change. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s in College Student Personnel, both from Miami University. She is currently pursuing her PhD in the Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Leslie brings a history of intersectional and on- and off-campus coalition work. She works on a variety of committees at the University of Illinois, many of which are devoted to diversity and social justice. Leslie is also involved nationally and is a member of the National Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, American Educational Studies Association, and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education to name a few. 

Danny Mathews

Danny grew up in South Florida in a multicultural community and non-traditional household. So, his appreciation for difference is deeply rooted. Danny holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Women’s & Gender Studies and a Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, both from Illinois State University. Danny’s interests are in LGBT/Queer Studies and Theory and the how that discourse intersects with other social issues like race, equity, and access. Danny has worked with community groups like Planned Parenthood, Project Oz, and The American Red Cross as an outreach educator and community organizer. He is excited to become a part of the Illini family and Urbana-Champaign community.                                    

Rebecca (Buffy) Vance

Rebecca (Buffy) Vance has been a longtime resident of Champaign-Urbana.  She has worked in the corporate field, including the University of Illinois, for many years.  In 2009 she turned her love of art and baking into a sugar arts business in downtown Urbana. She traveled to Paris for a pastry tour, and returned to Lyon in 2010 when she was asked to teach culinary students American cake decorating techniques (check out her website!). Buffy continues to teach cake decorating on a very limited basis and enjoys spending time with her family, especially her 2 year old grandson, Asher!

Julian (Jay) Pahre

Graduate Assistant

Julian (Jay) Pahre is a long time resident of Champaign-Urbana. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 2014 with dual undergraduate degrees in Painting and East Asian Languages and Cultures, and graduated in 2017 with a master's in East Asian Languages and Culture. His artwork touches on topics relating to queerness, narrative, mythology and identity construction.
