LYC 2015 Purpose: The purpose of the conference is to promote higher education among Latina/o high school students in the local community. This one-day conference provides participants with practical information designed to explain the college application process, college skills and show participants that college is in fact accessible. This year, the conference focuses on educational and informative sessions about college. The conference aims to provide “Essential Tips to Get In and Through College”.

High school students will engage in several workshops with current Illinois students to discuss the challenges and triumphs that they have faced through out their pursuit of higher education.  Also students will be able to participate in a College/Organization Fair and Major (minor) Fair. This new initiative offers opportunities for participants to directly engage with current students and talk about different career paths and the college experience in general.

Everyone is highly encouraged to submit proposals: Undergraduate students, Graduate students, Faculty, Administrators, Staff, and Community members.

Workshop Criteria: Workshops should be geared towards motivating young high school Latinas/os to attain a higher education. These workshops should provide perspectives on the options that they will have if they choose to further their education and be engaging.

Submission Guidelines:

Write a description on what the purpose of your workshop is or what it aims to do and how it relates to the function of LYC.
